DESIGN & CULTURE

A reason
for every relation.

Cultural Origin

BETWEEN draws on the Korean idea of sai—what exists between people and things—and the maru space of a traditional hanok. Both offer a way to think about the threshold between being alone and being together. The sofa translates this social relationship without reproducing a historic Korean furniture shape.

Form & Material

A raised, enclosing backrest descends through one continuous curve toward a more open end. A deep, uninterrupted seat sits above a recessed timber base. The asymmetric geometry supports a gradual shift from private lounging to informal conversation, expressed in low-contrast warm grey-brown upholstery and restrained timber.

Design Intent

The key idea is not asymmetry for its own sake. It is a continuous transition between shelter and openness, without turning either end into a conventional mirrored armrest. Material performance and construction remain matters for sampling.

Production & imagery

DF confirmed production and acceptance of the approved design on 23 October 2026. Images shown are design visualisations, not photographs of the finished manufactured product.
